Windows 2008 R2 Server – Windows Update

Nice, Windows Update.

Just for your information, setting a proxy server for windows updates goes with:

netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server:<port-nr>

Had some problems on a fresh Windows 2008 R2 server, so I deleted the whole Windows Update registry key, deleted the datastore, set the proxy and it was fixed.

Process is as follows:

(Disclaimer: you’re on your own)

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv

Delete datastore:

del %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

Remove registry key (whole):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

Set proxy again (in my case I used a proxy):

netsh winhttp set proxy proxy:8080

Start services again:

net start bits
net start wuauserv

Hope this helps you, good luck.
